Terms of Use

Effective: November 3, 2026 · Published by KLKR Studio

1. What this is

Hillside is a home screen (launcher) for Android, published by KLKR Studio (“we”, “us”). It turns the phone’s home screen into a desktop in the style of the early 2000s: icons, folders and text documents on the desktop, a taskbar with the Start menu and Quick Launch, and windows — All apps, the Control panel, Themes, the Trash, Run, Search, Help and the Accessories. These terms cover your use of the app. By installing or using Hillside you accept them; if you do not accept them, do not install it, or uninstall it.

Hillside is distributed through the Solana dApp Store, and a separate build of it is made for Google Play. Each store has its own terms between you and its operator, and nothing here replaces them. Some parts of these terms apply to one build only; where that is so, it is said.

2. What you may do

You may install and use Hillside on any device you control, for as long as you like, for personal or business use. No registration and no subscription. The app itself is free; only Premium, below, is paid, and it is optional.

3. Premium

Some features are grouped as Premium and unlocked by a single purchase — for example more than one desktop, System Restore, Fine Tuning, the Minefield game, app lock, app disguises, the hidden space, icon packs and saving the layout to a file. There is no subscription and nothing renews.

In the Solana dApp Store build:

In the Google Play build, Premium is not on sale yet. Once it is offered there, it is bought through Google Play’s own billing and governed by Google Play’s terms, including its refund rules.

What Premium contains may change over time, as set out in section 9.

4. Chat (Solana dApp Store build only)

The dApp Store build has a Chat window: one public room shared by everyone who uses that build. Anyone can read it; to write, you sign in by signing a line of text with your Solana wallet (no payment). Your messages are shown with your .skr name, or a shortened wallet address.

5. What you may not do

You may not sell, rent or redistribute Hillside as your own product, publish a modified build of it under its name or icon, or represent your build as coming from us. You may not use Hillside to break the law or to interfere with other people’s devices, you may not unlock Premium by getting around the purchase, and you may not attack, overload or misuse the chat server.

6. Ownership

Hillside, its name, its icon, its artwork and its code remain ours. These terms give you permission to use the app, not ownership of it. Third-party components included in the app remain the property of their authors and are used under their own licences. Hillside is an independent app and is not affiliated with the makers of Android, of your phone, or of the apps it shows.

Anything you arrange or create inside Hillside — your desktops, your folders and their names, your documents — is yours. We claim nothing in it, and we do not receive it. Your messages in Chat are yours too; by posting them you allow us to store them and show them to everyone in the room.

7. Other apps and services

Hillside shows and starts other apps installed on your phone, opens your phone’s own settings, contacts, gallery, files and browser when you ask it to, and can open your app store. In the Solana dApp Store build it can also open the Solana dApp Store and your wallet app, it reads from the public Solana network to prepare and check a Premium payment and to find your .skr name, and it connects to our chat server. We do not control those other apps, services or networks and are not responsible for what they do, what they show you, or what they collect. Your relationship with them is yours.

8. Privacy

What Hillside sends, and what it never sends, is set out in the Privacy Policy. In short: the Google Play build sends nothing at all, because it has no internet permission; the Solana dApp Store build reaches the network only for Premium and for Chat.

9. Changes to the app

Hillside is updated from time to time. Features may be added, changed or removed. We do not promise that any particular feature will exist forever, and we are not obliged to keep publishing the app or running the chat server.

10. No warranty

Hillside is provided “as is”, without warranty of any kind, to the extent the law allows. A home screen sits between you and your phone: while we test each release, we cannot promise it will be free of faults, or that it will work identically on every phone and every version of Android.

Your desktop, your documents and your restore points are kept only on your phone and are not part of Android’s backup. Keep your own copy of anything in a Hillside document that matters to you.

If Hillside misbehaves on your phone, you can set another home screen at any time in your phone’s settings, and uninstall Hillside like any other app.

11. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost data, lost profit, or the cost of substitute software arising from your use of Hillside, nor for what other people post in Chat. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

Some jurisdictions do not allow some of these exclusions; where that is so, they do not apply to you.

12. Ending these terms

You may stop using Hillside at any time by uninstalling it. We may end your permission to use it, or block your access to Chat, if you break these terms.

13. Governing law

Section incomplete; requires finalization before this document is treated as final. The governing jurisdiction has not yet been settled for KLKR Studio’s apps. Where you are a consumer, nothing in these terms removes the protection of the mandatory law of the country you live in.

14. Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the new version is published at this address with a new effective date. Using Hillside after that means you accept the new version.
